Outagamie County Regional Airport, serving Appleton, WI, was selected by the FAA to be one of 10 airports to participate in the Sustainable Master Pilot Program. Outagamie Airport's plan for the program is to reduce energy consumption and its carbon footprint by utilizing solar energy on the existing terminal building. Sustainable Engineering Group was engaged to evaluate solar thermal systems including solar cooling and heating and direct electrical conversion technologies. Based on our recommendations, the design team, with our assistance designed a solar thermal domestic hot water system and a 50-kW photovoltaic system. Other services we provided under the FAA program include construction verification, system performance testing, training review and operational and warranty review.
