Fort Atkinson School District renovated all of the building systems in four of their schools, totaling 450,000 ft². This included the design and installation of geothermal heat pumps, envelope upgrades, electric and lighting modifications, two solar hot water systems to heat their pools, a 50 kW wind turbine, and a 20 kW solar electric system. Our work included: design and construction commissioning (including the renewable energy systems), energy modeling, LEED assessment, Measurement and Verification, incentive administration, ENERGY STAR® certification and creating and updating the district-wide energy plan. After 3 years of operation, the school district is one of the most energy efficient in the state– consuming only 33 kBtu/SF/yr. Also, 4 of the 6 schools have been ENERGY STAR® certified.
