Sustainable Engineering Group performed a retro-commissioning services at Seamans Center on the Iowa City Campus. This 247,000 ft² facility was originally built in 1901, with subsequent additions. Spaces that require special temperature, humidity and/or ventilation conditions include the server rooms, the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, the Cellular Engineering Laboratory, and four auditoriums.

Goals of the retro-commissioning study were to identify energy and operational savings, meet building requirements, and improve occupant comfort. The study focused on the HVAC equipment and the Building Automation System, identifiing issues and opportunities that make the entire facility more efficient.
