Sustainable Engineering Group performed retro-commissioning services on the Boyd Law Building on the Iowa City campus. This 190,000 square foot facility, built in 1984, consists of: classrooms, offices, court rooms, a 300-person capacity auditorium, a 24-hour study area, and the Campus Law Library. The library includes a rare book section and a microfiche film room, with stringent temperature and humidity requirements.
Goals of the retro-commissioning study were to identify energy and operational savings, meet building requirements, and improve occupant comfort. The study focused on the existing HVAC equipment and the Building Automation System (BAS), and issues and opportunities were identified to make the entire facility run more efficiently.
